Luanda is Angola’s capital and largest city, positioned on the northern Atlantic shore.
It functions as the nation’s principal seaport and industrial center, with its origins visible in the colonial-era Baixa de Luanda near the waterfront.
The city is divided into Baixa de Luanda, known for its narrow streets and older buildings, and Cidade Alta, the more recently developed upper area. The metropolitan region now includes formerly separate areas like Viana, creating an extensive urban landscape shaped by a hot semi-desert climate and a distinct dry season influenced by the Benguela Current.

Quatro de Fevereiro Airport
The city’s main international airport lies 4 km south of downtown, providing the primary gateway for air travel into Angola.
Dry Season Months
May to October bring a pronounced dry season, moderated by the cool Benguela Current, with annual rainfall averaging around 405 mm.
